Class description

Six students from MA CoDE: Yonit Ben-Yehuda, Maria Alejandra Ojeda Mejia, Sofia Seta, Juan Corres Benito, Melissa Ugolini, Mira Urbassek teach professional training in daily changing proposals. During the two Wild Weeks, the common focus will be on the spine, weight, and gravity through the lens of different modern and contemporary dance techniques. Concepts and teaching approaches from Jooss-Leeder, Cunningham, release techniques, and Jennifer Muller, Emio Greco, Gill Clarke are trained and explored in individual and team teaching sessions. The two weeks offer both a physical experience and a chance to reflect on dance and movement together with the participants.

The Master for Contemporary Dance Education (MA CoDE) is based at the University of Music and Performing Arts. It is carried out in association with the Hessian Theater Academy and in cooperation with Tanzplattform Rhein-Main am Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm. Further information on the course and the teaching students can be found at https://www.hfmdk-frankfurt.de/thema/master-contemporary-dance-education-ma-code

Yonit Ben-Yehuda
The aim of this class is to develop an anatomical understanding of the body through embodied sensing in improvisational and set movement material. The class is influenced by Gill Clarke´s somatic approach to dance.

Melissa Ugolini
With a focus on energy as a driving force behind movement, the class will unfold through improvisational structures and set material, referencing principles of the Muller Polarity Technique.

Juan Corres Benito
This class uses set material while encouraging internal research, it exercises expansion, directionality, and an active relationship to weight through shifts in muscular tone and effort. The material is influenced by Emio Greco.

Maria Alejandra Ojeda
Exploring spatial pathways (Choreutics) and movement qualities (Eukinetics), the class will navigate through set choreographed material and improvisation tasks inspired by Jooss-Leeder technique.

Mira Urbassek
This class will explore the anatomical structure in relation to gravity, while moving in and out of the floor. By letting go of muscle tension we will find velocity in improvisation and set choreographed material.  The class is related to release technique.

Sofia Seta
Through elements of Cunningham Technique and Pilates, the class focuses on precision, inner musicality and performativity, challenging coordination skills, alertness, and spatial awareness.
